Shin Kick is Surrey's premier Muay Thai gym, and our kids' classes are built around one simple idea: every child should leave feeling a little taller. For ages 5 to 13, Muay Thai isn't about fighting — it's about learning to move well, listen, try hard, and pick themselves up when something is tricky. That's the discipline and self-belief that follows them out of the gym and into school and home.

Each session mixes proper technique with games and plenty of energy-burning fun, so your child stays engaged from the warm-up to the last round on the pads. Our coaches welcome all standards and all ages — a complete beginner who's never thrown a punch fits in just as easily as a child who's been coming for months. No one is left behind, and no one is pushed too hard.

We're a full-time, family gym a short, easy drive from the centre of Guildford, with three matted areas and on-site parking. The atmosphere is warm and down-to-earth — exactly the kind of place you'd feel comfortable dropping your child off, or settling in to watch with a coffee while they train.

New to this?

What a kids' class is really like

If your child has never done martial arts before, the first class can feel like a big unknown — for them and for you. Here's the honest version: it's structured, supervised and a lot more fun than it is fearsome. A coach greets you, your child joins the warm-up, and from there it's a mix of simple technique on the pads, listening games and movement drills suited to their age.

There's no pressure and no hard sparring for the little ones — children learn at their own pace, and the focus is always on doing things properly and safely, not on hitting hard. Coaches keep an eye on every child and keep the energy positive, so a nervous five-year-old and a confident eleven-year-old can both have a brilliant time in the same room.

To start, your child just needs comfy clothes they can move in, trainers and a water bottle — we lend the gloves, so there's nothing to buy on day one. The first class is free, so you can both see how it feels with no commitment. You're very welcome to stay and watch the whole time.

Why you'll love it

  • Confidence that shows — children stand taller, speak up and try new things, in and out of the gym
  • Focus and discipline — learning to listen, follow instructions and stick with something that takes effort
  • Respect, not aggression — Muay Thai teaches self-control and calm, not picking fights
  • Real fitness and energy out — a fun way to get active and off the screen
  • A warm, friendly, family atmosphere where every standard and age is genuinely welcome
  • Coaches who train regularly in Thailand, so your child learns authentic technique done properly

This is for you if…

  • Your child is full of energy and needs a fun, positive outlet for it
  • They're shy or lacking confidence and you'd love to see them grow
  • You want them to learn respect, self-control and how to stand up for themselves the right way
  • They've never tried martial arts and you want a supportive, beginner-friendly first step
  • You're after an active, screen-free activity close to Guildford with easy parking

Common questions

What ages are the kids' classes for?

Our kids' Muay Thai classes are for children aged 5 to 13. Children are grouped so the class suits their age and stage. If you're not sure which session is right for your child, just give us a call on 01483 578358 and we'll point you to the best one.

Is it safe, and will it make my child aggressive?

It's the opposite of aggressive. Muay Thai for kids is about self-control, respect and confidence. Classes are supervised and structured, technique is taught properly, and there's no hard sparring for the younger ones. The aim is a calmer, more confident child — not a rougher one.

Can I stay and watch?

Yes, absolutely. Parents are welcome to stay and watch the whole class. Many do, especially for the first few visits, and there's space to settle in while your child trains.

Does my child need any kit or experience to start?

No experience and no special kit needed. Just bring comfy clothes they can move in, trainers and a water bottle — we lend the gloves. The first class is free, so you can try it before deciding anything.

How much does it cost?

Junior membership for ages 5 to 13 is £60 a month, which includes their classes. The first class is free so your child can try it first. You can see all options on our memberships page or ask us when you visit.

Where are you and is there parking?

We're at Weyford House, 21/22 Woodbridge Meadows, Guildford GU1 1BA — a short drive from the town centre and about a 10-minute walk from Guildford station, with on-site parking, so the drop-off is easy.
