No silly questions
New here? Start with these
The honest answers to the things people worry about before their first class. Still unsure? Just call us — we're friendly, promise.
Do I need to be fit before I start?
No. You build your fitness by training, not before you start. Every class works at your own pace, so you stop when you need to and go again when you're ready. Plenty of people walk in completely new to exercise and find their feet within a few weeks.
I've never trained before. Will I be the only beginner?
You won't. We welcome all levels and ages, and there are always beginners on the mats. You don't have to be a fighter to train with us, and the coaches are used to teaching people their very first punch. You'll be shown what to do, step by step.
What should I wear and bring to my first class?
Comfortable workout clothes you can move and sweat in, plus a bottle of water. That's all you need to start. Just turn up a few minutes early so a coach can say hello and show you where everything is.
Do I need my own gloves and pads?
Not for your first class. We have gloves you can borrow so you can try it out before buying anything of your own. Once you decide to keep training, a coach will help you pick the right kit.
Will I have to spar or get hit on my first class?
No. There is no sparring on your first class, and contact is always optional. A beginner session is about learning the basics on the pads with a coach or partner, at a friendly pace. Sparring only ever comes much later, and only when you choose to.
Is it safe? Will I get injured?
Your safety comes first. Classes are coached and structured, technique is taught before anything else, and you only ever work at a level you're comfortable with. We've built a friendly, family atmosphere where nobody is trying to hurt anyone.
What does my first session actually look like?
You'll usually warm up, learn a few basic strikes on the pads, and cool down, all guided by a coach. There's no sparring and no pressure to keep up. Most people leave their first class surprised by how welcome they felt and keen to come back.
Is my first class really free?
Yes. Your first class is completely free, with no commitment. It's the easiest way to see the gym, meet a coach, and find out whether Muay Thai is for you before you decide anything. Just get in touch to book your spot.
Am I tied into a long contract? How do I cancel?
Memberships are paid monthly by direct debit, so you're not locked into a long fixed term. If you'd rather not commit at all, you can pay as you go at £15 per class (£20 for two hours). To change or stop your membership, just speak to us at the gym or give us a call on 01483 578358.
From what age can children train?
Children can start from age 5. Our Junior Muay Thai is for ages 5 to 13, and we have a Student rate for ages 14 to 17. Classes are run by experienced coaches in a supportive, friendly environment. Their first class is free, so they can try it before you commit.
I'm a parent worried about safety and supervision. Where can I find out more?
We take the care of every child seriously, and classes are coached and supervised throughout. For full detail on how we keep young members safe, please see our Safeguarding and Child Protection page, or call us on 01483 578358 and we'll happily talk you through it.
Is there a women-only class, and can I have a female coach?
Yes, we run a Ladies-Only Muay Thai class, and you can see the details on our Ladies-Only Muay Thai page. It's a relaxed, welcoming space whether you've trained before or never thrown a punch. You're also welcome in our mixed classes if you prefer.
How much does it cost and what's included?
Muay Thai membership is £90/month for adults (18+), £75/month for students (14-17) and £60/month for juniors (5-13), with a one-off £25 joining fee. That includes all Muay Thai classes plus use of the gym during opening hours. Boxing-only and MMA-only memberships are £60/month each, or you can pay as you go at £15 per class.
Are BJJ and Savate included in my Muay Thai membership?
No. BJJ and Savate are priced separately and are not part of a Muay Thai membership. Your Muay Thai membership covers all Muay Thai classes plus gym use during opening hours. Just ask us about pricing for any class you'd like to add.
Is there parking, and how do I find you?
We're at Weyford House, 21/22 Woodbridge Meadows, Guildford, Surrey GU1 1BA, about a 10-minute walk from Guildford town centre and the mainline station. We're on the Woodbridge Meadows estate, so don't worry if it looks a little tucked away. If you're driving in and unsure where to go, call us on 01483 578358 and we'll point you in the right direction.
What are your opening hours, and how do I get started?
We're open Monday to Friday 09:00-21:00 and Saturday and Sunday 09:00-14:00. The best way to start is to book your free first class. Call us on 01483 578358 or book online, turn up in comfortable clothes with some water, and we'll take care of the rest.
