Muay Thai is known as the art of eight limbs, because it uses your fists, elbows, knees and shins. It's one of the most complete striking arts in the world — brilliant for fitness, sharp for self-defence, and genuinely good fun once you get going. At Shin Kick, we teach the real thing.
We're a full-time, dedicated Muay Thai gym in the heart of Guildford, with three matted areas and coaches who make regular trips to Thailand to keep learning at the source. That authenticity matters to us. But just as much, so does the welcome — we're a friendly, family gym where every standard is looked after, from the person walking in for their very first session to the experienced fighter sharpening their technique.
Most people who start with us have never thrown a punch in their life. That's completely normal. You'll learn the basics step by step, alongside other beginners, with a coach showing you exactly what to do. No experience needed, no fitness level required — just turn up and we'll take care of the rest.

What your first Muay Thai class is really like
Come along in comfy clothes and trainers, with a bottle of water — that's all you need to start. We lend the gloves, so there's nothing to buy on day one. Arrive about ten minutes early, say hello to a coach, and they'll look after you from there.
A typical class starts with a gentle warm-up to loosen you off, then you'll learn or drill technique — footwork, a few basic strikes, how to hold and hit the pads. You'll spend time on the pads and bags putting it into practice. There's no forced sparring and no contact thrown at beginners, so you can focus on learning without any pressure or fear of getting hit.
You won't be the only first-timer, and nobody is watching or judging. Our coaches are used to teaching complete beginners every single week — their whole job is to make it click for you. By the end you'll have broken a sweat, learned something real, and most people leave already wanting to come back.

Common questions
Do I need to be fit to start?
No. You train at your own pace and the classes are built for all levels, so total beginners are completely normal here. Your fitness will build naturally the more you come, and a coach will always be on hand to guide you.
Will I have to spar or get hit on my first class?
No. There's no forced sparring and no contact thrown at beginners. You'll focus on learning technique on the pads and bags in a safe, supportive way, and you'll never be pushed into anything you're not ready for.
What should I wear and bring?
Just comfy clothes, trainers and a bottle of water. We lend the gloves, so there's nothing you need to buy before your first session. Changing rooms are on site.
How much does it cost?
Your first class is free. After that, adult Muay Thai membership is £90 a month (student 14–17 is £75, junior 5–13 is £60), or you can pay as you go at £15 per class. There's a one-off £25 joining fee for all new members (monthly or pay-as-you-go). See our memberships page for full details.
What does my Muay Thai membership include?
A Muay Thai membership covers all our Muay Thai classes plus use of the gym during opening hours. Please note that BJJ and Savate are priced separately and are not included.
Where are you and is there parking?
We're at Weyford House, 21/22 Woodbridge Meadows, Guildford, GU1 1BA — about a ten-minute walk from Guildford town centre and the mainline station, with parking on site. To check class times or ask anything, call us on 01483 578358.
